Glass animation

Untitled from jon tunnell on Vimeo.

Just started working on the actual animation that will be going on inside the glass panels. It's already improved since I made this video, but I exported this video to try it out in after effects.

Text animation

Text building animation from jon tunnell on Vimeo.

I have been real sick this weekend, and I finally got some energy to get up and get on the computer. Here is my super awesome text animation from class. The letters build some sort of vehicle and take off.

Title progress

Title!! from jon tunnell on Vimeo.

I'm working on making a quick title for our project. We aren't set on the name yet, but I'm working on getting a feeling of the title being blown away.

Glass, cubes, and motion tracking

Glass and cubes from jon tunnell on Vimeo.

Trying out motion tracking our glass panes and inserting blender footage in after effects. Going pretty well so far.

Principles of animation

Bouncing cube from jon tunnell on Vimeo.

In this video I tired to show a couple principles of animation. The first is follow through. When the cube leaves the trampoline, the cloth doesn't just stop, it follows through and keeps moving. I also tried animating a shape key to squash the cube down at the bottom. This was my first time using shape keys and cloth, so a lot of my time was spent messing around with those and trying to figure them out.

Array animation

Array animation from jon tunnell on Vimeo.

Here is my array animation. It isn't all spinny and flying around all crazy like most array animations. I kind of wanted to try to do something different with with arrays. So I see it as a camera filming some strange organism and checking it out. When the camera gets too close, the plant gets scared and closes up. Then, as the camera backs away, it starts to come back out.

Final Project

Here are the images for my final project. The product line doesn't really have a name, but they are all designed to help alleviate simple, daily annoyances.

Still at it

I have been messing around with yafaray for most of the day now. I'm finally starting to get something going here. A lot of my time was actually spent trying to create liquid to put in the tube. I ended up getting frustrated with that and instead made little green glass energy balls. I'm assuming once I get my materials really down, the rest of my models will go a lot smoother since I can just use the same look.

More yafaray

More progress made with yafaray this morning. I got my lighting set up looking a lot better. I'm now moving on to getting materials on my actual models looking right. The bottom picture is the first render of one of my products. I'm having some trouble with glass now. The tube kind of looks non existent as opposed to something made of glass. Oh well, at least it's starting to look sexy.

Yafaray progress

I'm going to use yafaray to render my project, so I'm trying to get a handle on it. I have made some progress towards creating a product lighting setup.

Energizer start

Here are the beginnings of the energizer (temporary name) pack. I would really like to have most of my modeling done this weekend so I can really focus on the materials and renderings looking really believable.

Project 2 Sketches

Here are some initial sketches for my second project. I'm in the "invention" group, so I have decided to develop a product line. I'm planning on designing 3 products made to help alleviate daily, simple problems. However, the products will latch on to people's bodies in really scary, painful ways. For example, a camera sits on a person's head so it's always with them, but it stays on their head via a drill that drills into their skull. I see these products pointing out how much people are willing to go through to "better" their lives; like people go through plastic surgery and getting their face torn up just so they can look better. I plan on rendering my models with yafray to get a super clean, serious, and modern product look to them.

Project 1 fix up

Although I was very pleased with my project, I felt like it could have been presented better. The folder that I had my documents in looked really bad, and it took away from the overall effect of the piece.
The folder just looked cheap and non-official. So this weekend I found a much better folder that I think sells the effect much better than the original.

Definitely a cooler folder. It even closes with a sweet elastic band. Stay tuned, I will soon be uploading a post going through my whole process of the project and how I ended up where I did.

Army on a Budget

So here is my first project. I used pictures of weapons from a book published in 1913 as inspiration. My project ended up being a what if scenario with the army being affected by America's debt. They have to revert back to old technology, but are still acting like it is awesome and cutting edge.

Project 1 progress

My meshes for project 1 are almost all done. Then I get to add textures and materials to them.

Mantis Toboggan MD

My result of following the mantis tutorial on blender cookie. I had a really hard time following the guy with how fast he talked, and he used many techniques and shortcuts I didn't know. I found myself pausing and rewinding the video every 30sec or so. I toughed it out and got a fairly decent mantis that only needs a few improvements, mainly dealing with the small details.

I can has banana?

An amazing banana display created after modeling, unwrapping, and texturing.

Unwrapping

After learning how to unwrap a mesh, we had to try doing it to a more complex shape. This shape still isn't too complicated, but it does have a hole in the middle that made it difficult. It was kind of confusing to do, but i muscled through it.

This seems fun

Learning how to manipulate arrays. It's definitely fun creating very complex designs with a rather small amount of work. I can see this getting pretty complicated, and possibly a little confusing, but I like it so far.

Part 2

I added material to my toaster, and decided it was kind of boring so I went back and struggled through the wiimote. It came out better than I thought it would, but I wish the buttons felt like they were inserted into the controller better. I still like it though!

Latest renders

Latest render for class. Choose something rather simple from my apartment that I can model. At first I was going to do a wiimote, it seemed simple enough. However, after a lot of time and problems I decided to do my toaster instead.
